Working together to improve things.

Another good day in London, this morning with an industry trade body who we'll be working with over the coming year to improve their approach to research including freelancers, and the afternoon saw insightful conversations at the RSA with the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre on the experiences and challenges facing freelancers, as well as discussion around what the incoming freelance champion will need to be tackling.

Another good day in London, this morning with an industry trade body who we'll be working with over the coming year to improve their approach to research including freelancers, and the afternoon saw insightful conversations at the RSA with the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre on the experiences and challenges facing freelancers, as well as discussion around what the incoming freelance champion will need to be tackling.

Improving things for freelancers is complex, and there's no single solution. it'll take a combination of policy, research, education and activism, as well as a major mindset shift around how freelancers are both perceived and treated.

But today was so reassuring to hear so many fantastic organisations, bodies, groups and individuals who are all working towards similar goals.

It'll take lots of sharing and collaboration, but there are people actively fighting for freelancers.

Matthew Knight

Matthew Knight is an independent strategist, and founder of The Independency Co.

For ten years, he's been a vocal advocate for freelancers and improved ways of working with independents.

Founder of the award winning Leapers project - supporting over 250,000 freelancers, he writes regularly on the topic of independent work and has featured in titles including Freelancing Magazine, Design Week, Creative Bite, The Guardian, Bloomberg, Future Trends, Courier and the BBC.

He is a member of the Mental Health at Work Leadership Council, and has contributed to a number of government panels on the topic of independent work.
